DIARY STORIES
courtesy : google image

I grieve the loss

Of those words

Written on pages

Of a diary

With a white cover

Lovingly holding

The rainbow thoughts

Of a prancing child

Who was tamed by words

Read or written

Recited or put to tune

Words, words and words

Of childhood

That flowed gently

On those pages

Of that white

D i a r y

That also held

Her poet father’s words

Of a corrected rhyme

Of a rooster poem

That she wrote

All forever gone

WHEN THE ANGEL’S WINGS CAUGHT FIRE

courtesy : google image

When his blood cells were losing strength

His time was being crushed to dust

Doctors sat with grave face

The hapless father running to and fro

He was reading Tintin on wheel chair

The frail hands dropped the comic book

An eager mind instructed the body

To pick it up

As it was the time of fall

Pain would not let the hands to work

The mother, wiping her tears

Gave the book to her babe

Her loving words added faith

To the dying little angel

“Beta* enjoy every moment of your life”

He flashed a bright smile

A LEAN ROYAL BENGAL TIGER IN A ZOO

courtesy : google image

Are those dozy eyes of yours

On the edge of dreamy

Sunderbans

In search

Of your ladylove

Are those nimble magic feet of yours

Dreaming of those flash of lightning

That struck

From the grassy sky

Upon the chital

What daring hands

Could put you under those iron bars

Have you groaning with shards of dream

Make your heart burn

On caged nights

What gruesome mind

Could wean you away

From your mother’s leafy lap

And make you a mere toy

Of entertainment

ALONE
courtesy google image

Words fizzing in unceasing flow

Never lets me alone

Only once in a cool hillside

Those sticky foams were gone

Waves stilled

Inert mind was peace filled

World shone

In an unearthly light

Though for a few seconds that glow

Numbed the words and their might

THE BUDDHA

courtesy : google image

When those feet tasted the first dust

A deep sorrow misted his heart

A violent storm choked blue flow

The lotus seemed to lost its glow

A deep sorrow misted his heart

All entangled in dream’s meshes

The lotus seemed to lost its glow

The lion’s out snapping the net

All entangled in dream’s meshes

Nettle-desire had broken sting

The lion’s out snapping the net

Paths carved for the brave to follow

Nettle-desire had broken sting

Luster found the old home once lost

Paths carved for the brave to follow

Golden lotus bloomed on His trail

WHEN FACEBOOK FAILS FOR HALF AN HOUR

courtesy : google image

The Earth stopped spinning yester night

Ether’s heavy with hue and cry

Celebs and brands all lost their sight

The Earth stopped spinning yester night

Lesser mortals with all their might

Scurried virtually to pry

The Earth stopped spinning yester night

Ether’s heavy with hue and cry

LIGHT AND DARK

courtesy : google image

Spectacular seasons

Come and go

No unfulfilled promise

Do they show

There is joy in living

There is joy in dying

A death is a birth

They utter in mirth

They are words of the

Passage of time

In darkness and light

Do they chime

BRIDGE

(A Tanka)

courtesy : google image

A poem is a bridge

Connecting two eager minds

 Spark of emotions

A grand vista opens up

Words are bonded forever

PLACES

Small space always interests me a lot

The world is infinite to the small me

So I nurture a me-space in my heart

Where tree-dreams blossom to take their wings

Baobabs beside the Zambezi beckon

The world is infinite to the small me

Those dewy eyes will never let me run

Seeing me her frail frame flutters in joy

Baobabs beside the Zambezi beckon

The night long journey to her makes my day

Dreamy Africa slowly disappears

Seeing me her frail frame flutters in joy

Even longest day sheds its light I fear

Yellow blooms on my doorsteps catch my eye

Dreamy Africa slowly disappears

I behold the sinking tangerine ray

Small space always interests me a lot

Yellow blooms on my doorsteps catch my eye

So I nurture a me-space in my heart

  FATHER’S DAY

courtesy : google image

Nothing can bring that loving voice

That is lost in the womb of Time

Only the memories still chime

Those sonorous words of great choice

“I want to see you”, he would say

Obligations tied up my feet

On two vacations we would meet

My grieving heart’s silent today

AN EVENING IN A MONASTERY

Each water droplet of the saffron river

Sing renunciation

While the lovers nibble grass with their

Cotton ball stuffed ears

The ochre robed man sprinkles on his shaven head

The blissful placidity from the flow

The trees with their black foliages

Sing in bird voice

An all mighty little star fake smiles at

The weary sun

Tear drops of violet daylight mingle with the water

Vespers from the monastery stir my soul

And quietly flows the Himalayas

In the mind of his daughter Ganga*

*In the Hindu mythology the Ganga (the Ganges) is Himalayas’ daughter

LOST AND FOUND

Arun, Barun, Kiranmala by Shailen Ghosh courtesy : google image

When I was a fourth grader

I lost a story book in school

I can still remember that lump

In the throat, that frantic search

And rebukes from the elders

That story of three siblings

Based on a popular folk-tale

Had beautiful songs and rhymes

The book was half read

And to add salt to injury

Vanished from the market

Decades after decades passed

The brothers and their only sister

Were lost in the darkness of oblivion

A few years ago

In a book fair in our small town

I found the book in a stall

Not losing a moment I bought it

“Why this fairy tale now?” says my daughter

“Oh it’s not a book, it’s my childhood” I tell her

AT 13

courtesy : google image

Lucky or unlucky

Whatever you are

You’ll always remain

As a honeyed word

My unforgettable teen

Began with you

On the African soil

That seemed so new

A new mould of me

And those fairytale hours

All your gifts

I still savor

My sweet thirteen

PAST

1902 wasn’t that far

I felt its pulse

Heard its voice

Saw the movement of history

As I touched my grandfather

Who was a 1902 born

And saw this vast land

Being pieced

And shackled with borders

Blood oozing out slowly

From Gandhi...

Now the olden times

Don’t vibrate with life

Memories are only memories

THE MOON
courtesy : google image

When I see you

Only sense of vision

Remains

Words vaporize

A mystic emptiness

Resides

That soft, silver flow

Cooling me down

Spreads

Darkness melts away

The sterling night

Meditates
